Berserks are a Barbarian only ability that sends a warrior to go into a barely controlled rage that will temporarily increase their abilities in combat at the expense of their mental and physical health. While berserking, a Barbarian retains barely enough control to distinguish friend from foe, and can do little more than fight, in most rages. There are ten different berserks. The initial four berserks are taught by any Guildleader, while any berserks or berserking abilities at 50th circle and higher must be sought out by Charak who wanders around Pokehekepi Beach.

STARTING A BERSERK
BERSERK <NAME> will start a berserk if you have learned the technique. Like Barbarian dances, berserks are fueled by inner fire. If you do not have the inner fire to initialize a berserk, you will receive this: "You gnash your teeth and tense every muscle in your body, but the violent rage lingers just beyond your grasp." Starting a berserk will automatically sap a chunk of your inner fire, and then continue on the remaining inner fire until it is depleted, at which point the berserk will end. Upon a successful start of a berserk you will leap to a standing position if your are prone/sitting/kneeling, break out of any stun, and also attempt to break out of webbing. Once a berserk is started it will then function in ‘pulses’. A pulse is defined as messaging that looks similar to this: "Your rage burns harshly, quickening your step and reactions."
POSITIVE BERSERK EFFECTS
-At the start of any berserk a warrior will jump to a standing position if prone/sitting/kneeling, shake off any stun, and break out of webbing.
-Good chance of shaking off a stun at each pulse
- Good chance of breaking out of a web at each pulse
- Will jump back to a standing position if prone/sitting/kneeling at each berserk pulse.
- Can initialize a berserk at any distance range (melee, pole, missile and out of combat)
- All berserks offer the same skill boost to your multi opponent skill.
- All berserks allow you to break the calming effect spells casted by creatures and players. (Such as hypnotize, banner of truce, etc.)
- All berserks lessen the effectiveness of enchantes to the point where you receive messaging around the lines of "so and so's song has no effect on you in your enraged state."
NEGATIVE BERSERK EFFECTS
- Your intelligence/wisdom is lowered up to 10 stat points each while under the usage of a berserk. This lessons your ability to fight Spell vs. Will contests. The amount of INT/WIS that is lowered is based on how high your discipline is. At around 40-50 stat points in discipline you lose the maximum amount of INT/WIS (10 points each).
- You will see this messaging when you attempt to LOOK: "Your world is a crimson haze. Shapes and figures loom out of the bloody fog as you seek your next kill."
- Most berserks will not allow you to retreat or flee, though some do.
-When your berserk ends you may be stunned and prone.
-With the exception of special shark teeth (or dying), there is no way to end a berserk before it completes its duration.
POWER OF BERSERKS
The power (not necessarily duration) of a berserk is determined by the Barbarian's Strength, Stamina and Agility. Because berserks are based on unleashing an uncontrolled fury, the Discipline stat negatively impacts berserk power.
BERSERK DURATION
Berserks duration is determined by the berserk you choose to initialize, your inner fire level at the time of initializing and whether you are "in combat" or "out of combat" during the time you initialize your berserk.
"In combat" status of a berserk is determined at the starting point of a Barbarian's berserking rage. If the Barbarian is facing or being faced by another creature or character, then the berserk's duration is classified as "in combat" and thus, the berserk's duration is extended. Extended berserk duration allows for more potential inner fire recovery either passively or actively. If the berserk is started when nothing is facing or being faced by the Barbarian, then the berserk's duration is classified as "out of combat" status. This would cause for the berserk's duration to decrease (sometimes decreasing significantly depending on the berserk used).
ENDING A BERSERK
There are three possible outcomes that may occur when a berserk wears off. Your inner fire level at the point of the berserk's ending determines which outcome your Barbarian receives (this is ordered in best to worst situation for a berserk's ending).
High End Success - The Barbarian remains standing and receives a minor fatigue hit. This occurs when his/her inner fire is at "Surrounding your reflection is a brilliant aura of flames that extends over your height again above you" until "Surrounding your reflection is a brilliant aura of pristine quality burning outward at twice your height." (the latter being the full inner fire level)
High End Success messaging:
"Feeling barely fazed by your mad rage, you glance around for another enemy to kill."
Mid End Success - The Barbarian falls to his/her knees while receiving a moderate fatigue hit. This when your inner fire level is at "Surrounding your reflection is a brilliant aura of beautiful flames extending out around you about half again your height" until "Surrounding your reflection is a brilliant aura of flames that extends nearly your full height again above you."
Messaging of Mid End Success:
"Blood-red vision fades, along with your frenzied rage, leaving you gasping for breath."
"You crumple from exhaustion!"
Low End Success - The Barbarian becomes stunned (anywhere from a few seconds until around a minute) and is in a prone position, while also receiving a heavy fatigue hit. This occurs when his/her inner fire is at "Surrounding your reflection is a bright aura of beautiful flames extending out around you just beyond the reach of your arms" until "Surrounding your reflection is a dim glow as if a flame lurked just out of sight".
Low End Success Messaging:
"You feel the frothing rage subside, and as if stepping out of a crimson fog, the world around you emerges with vivid clarity."
"You collapse from fatigue!" (Warning, this can even kill you. Berserk out of combat with care.)
INNER FIRE AND BERSERKS
It is important to understand the relationship between one's inner fire and berserks, as inner fire is what fuels berserks and determines the condition of the barbarian once the berserk wears off. To improve the condition you will be in once a berserk ends you can gain inner fire. Inner fire recovery occurs in primarily two possible ways for Barbarians: Active inner fire recovery and passive inner fire recovery.
Active inner fire recovery occurs when a Barbarian makes the killing blow to a creature while using a weapon that will teach him/her experience on that creature. Here, you will have a chance toward regaining inner fire. Another method for inner fire recovery is when you use Berserk Grave or Berserk Everild and kill any creature (you still must get the killing blow, but it doesn't have to be with a weapon that offers you any experience for killing that creature). You will get a message indicating "You feel stronger!" This will increase your vitality and inner fire, among other things that will be listed later.
Passive inner fire recovery is when a Barbarian regains inner fire via duration of time elapsed. This is mainly based off your Barbarian's concentration (3 x Discipline + 1.5 x Intelligence + 1 Stamina). Your inner fire passive recovery grows with your Barbarian as he/she excels in the guild via promotions.

DISCIPLINE AND BERSERKS
Your potential power of a berserk is still determined by the Barbarian's Strength, Stamina, and Agility. Discipline is a negatively influencing stat toward a berserk within the whole scheme of its proportion toward Strength, Stamina and Agility. As mentioned, higher discipline will also increase the penalty to the INT/WIS loss experienced in berserks. Ultimately you will have to decide whether you want more powerful dances or berserks, since discipline heavily negates berserks, and supports dances.
There are three primary stages of berserks when it comes to power:
1. Your Barbarian has attained a high point of potential for the stat boost and skill boost when using berserks.
2. Your Barbarian has attained a high point of potential for the stat boost, but your skill boost begins to diminish when using berserks.
3. Your Barbarian has potentially lost much of your stat boost and skill boost when using berserks.
Observing the potential inner fire messages you may receive will better help you understand where you are when it comes to expecting what type of berserking outcome will occur.
BERSERK SHARKTEETH
So far, the only way to stop a berserk besides dying is to use the special item sharkteeth. You can read more about them in the Barbarian only items section.
